Lions win big in Pulaski

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Lions basketball team (12-8, 7-7 MSC) won big on Saturday, knocking off Martin Methodist (12-8, 8-8) 82-52 in the rematch.

The Lions jumped out to a quick lead and never trailed in the contest, leading by as many as 22 points in the first half on their way to a 14-point lead at the break.

The Red Hawks, wouldn't go away easy, though, going on a 13-2 run to start the second half to cut the Lion lead to just three points with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game.

The Lions defense, though stepped up big, and they were able to stretch their lead to unreachable heights for Martin Methodist and earn the lopsided win.

The Lions defense forced 17 turnovers while holding Martin Methodist to just 29 percent shooting, while they shot over 50 percent in the win.

Kortland Martin continued his tear, leading all scorers with 20 points.

Luka Filipovic had a strong day off the bench, scoring 18 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Hunter Scurlock scored 13 points in the win, and Jeremiah Alexander scored 10 to round out the double-digit scorers.

The Lions will face off against Bethel on Monday at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
