MARIETTA, Ga. – The Freed-Hardeman University volleyball team (13-10, 2-6 MSC) dropped its rematch against Life University (22-6, 6-3 MSC) in four sets (25-18, 18-25, 13-25, 20-25) on Tuesday night.
The Lady Lions started out strong, jumping out to an early 11-2 lead due to tough serving. The Running Eagles found some momentum late in the first set, closing the gap slightly to a seven-point loss, at 25-18.
The Life Running Eagles capitalized on the momentum in the second set, leading the set by as many as seven points at 17-10. The Lady Lions fought back hard, tightening the lead to two points. A late serving run would end the set at 25-18 in favor of the Running Eagles.
In the third set, the two teams went back and forth, tied at 12-12, until a service run by Life would put their team up ahead 18-12. The Lady Lions were unable to close the gap and went on to lose the set 25-13.
In the fourth set, the Running Eagles would take an early 7-1 lead. The Lady Lions fought back hard, evening the score at 12-12, but could not stop the difficult serving and strong attack of the Running Eagles, as the set ended 25-20 with Life taking the 3-1 win.
Kacey Donegan led the attack at 14 kills, followed by Claire Walker at nine.
Emma Self ended the night with 16 assists, followed by Allie Humphry with 13. Reilly Fulton led the defensive effort at 23 digs.
The Lady Lions are scheduled to host in-state rival Martin Methodist on Saturday. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
