Lady Lions fall in straight sets to Lindsey Wilson

HENDERSON, Tenn. — The Freed-Hardeman University volleyball team (15-13, 4-10 MSC) fell in straight sets to Lindsey Wilson (17-2, 13-1 MSC) (20-25,18-25,15-25) on Monday.

To start the match, the Lady Raiders got off to a 6-0 lead. The Lady Lions would cut the lead to two points at 6-4 until another 4-1 run by the Blue Raiders stretched the lead to 10-5. The Lady Lions would then use 5-1 run to cut the deficit to one point midway through the first set. The team would take their first lead of the night at 18-17 before the visitors would notch a 8-2 run to take a 1-0 set lead.

In the second set, the teams would trade blows early, as the set was knotted at 10. The Blue Raiders would again use a 11-2 run to separate and take a 21-12 lead. The Lady Lions used a 6-2 run of their own, but their comeback attempt fell short with the visitors taking a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, the Blue Raiders opened with a 7-2 lead and stretched it to 13-7 midway through the set. The team would lead by as many as eight, as they cruised to a third set win to claim the match.

Kacey Donegan led the offensive attack with 15 kills, and Emma Self added 15 assists.

Allie Humphry dished out 11 assists of her own in the match. Reilly Fulton anchored the team defensively with 23 digs, and Emma Campbell had a 10-dig performance.

Monday's match opened a three-game homestand for the Lady Lions, and the team will be back in action on Thursday against Shawnee State. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. at the Brewer Sports Center.
