HENDERSON, TN. — The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions (14-7, 6-7) took on their conference opponent, the Cumberland University Phoenix  (9-10, 4-8) on the road Saturday, January 29. The Lady Lions fell short by a final scoreline of 57-51

The Lady Lions were trapped in a relatively slow paced game, as both teams attempted just 13 shots from the field in the first quarter of action. The Lady Lions made just three of these plus three free throws for a total of nine points. Luckily, the Phoenix were only able to tally 13 due to some great team defense by the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions offense was carried early by Senior leader Reagan Floyd as she assisted or scored on five of FHU's first seven baskets. Yet heading into the halftime break the Lady Lions trailed 26-19.

Freed-Hardeman found their stride offensively in the second half as they came alive for 19 points in the third quarter, being led by Alyssa LeMay and Kinlee Varnell who scored four points each. The Lady Lions also were able to take one point off of their deficit as they outscored Cumberland 19-18 in the third.

Everything was left to play for in the fourth, and the Lady Lions fought hard as shots unluckily did not fall down the stretch, but they look to bounce back as they move into the remainder of their conference schedule. The scoring leaders for the Lady Lions included 11 from starter Alyssa LeMay, and nine each for bench weapons KJ White and Kaylee Odom. White and LeMay also snatched six rebounds a piece, to go alongside Reagan Floyd's six assists.
