Box Score PIKEVILLE, KY – The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions (14-8, 6-8 MSC) traveled to Pikeville, Kentucky for a Mid-South Conference matchup against the University of Pikeville Bears (12-10, 6-9 MSC). The Lady Lions faltered in the second half down the stretch in route to a tough 62-50 loss.
The Lady Lions started out slow digging themselves into an 8-0 deficit following the opening tip. FHU was able to answer the quick start by the home team with a 7-0 run of their own making it an 8-7 at the 4:55 mark in the first quarter. It was an up and down first quarter with few stoppages that ended with the Lady Lions shooting only 33 percent from the floor and trailing 14-11. The Lady Lions fell behind by as many as 8 in the second frame, but finished on a 14-4 run to go into the locker room with a 27-25 lead
Reagen Floyd led the way offensively in the first half dropping in 9 points on a perfect 2-2 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line. Kaylee Odom played big minutes off the bench in the first half helping out with 6 points and some key defensive plays.
The second half was an offensive struggle for the Lady Lions. FHU was outscored 37-23 in the second half following the slim two-point halftime advantage they held. The Lady Lions were outrebounded by a margin of 45 to 25, and attempted 15 less free throws than Pikeville. The Lady Lions pulled within 2 with the score bing 48-50 with 3:44 remaining. However, the Bears were able to close out the Lady Lions with a 12-2 run and FHU takes the defeat by a final score of 62-50.
Alyssa LeMay scored 12 of her team high 14 points in the second half and added 7 rebounds to also lead the team. Reagen Floyd and Kaylee Odom put up 12 points apiece to help pace the offensive output for the Lady Lions.
UP NEXT: This loss ends a tough 3-game road trip for the Lady Lions in which they finished 0-3. FHU returns to the Brewer Sports Center on Thursday at 6 PM against Tennessee Southern in hopes of ending the skid.
