HENDERSON, Tenn. — The FHU Lady Lions honored five of the best to put on the maroon and grey. Ashlynne Clifft, Kacey Donegan, Sarah Grace Duncan, Allie Humphry, and Bryce Morris were all honored in a pregame ceremony before hitting the floor in action against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College. The Blue Raiders rained on the Lady Lions' parade, winning a five-set match (17-25, 25-9, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13) in front of a full house at the Brewer Sports Center.
The Lady Lions (14-12, 4-8 MSC) were a force at the net in the opening set, sending back four blocks in the frame. Meanwhile, the FHU attack was strong, pounding a match-high 14 kills. A 4-0 run in the middle of the set sparked by a Kacey Donegan kill. Eventually, the Lady Lions kept the pressure building until the 25-17 set victory.
Despite the strong start, the Lady Lions had a difficult time keeping the ball in the lines, committing 10 attack errors to help a tough Lindsey Wilson (10-12, 4-8 MSC) pick up the pace. Utilizing a 9-1 run in the middle of the set to launch to a 25-9 set victory.
Neither team wanted to give way in the third set, with the Blue Raiders and Lady Lions drawing even 10 times and trading leads four times in the set. Ultimately, it was an Avery Harris service ace to end the frame in favor of the girls in maroon, 25-19.
Within one point of the Blue Raiders, an Avery Harris kill pulled the score to 23-22 and caused an LWC time-out. The break proved fruitful, as the guests came out and won the next two points to force a decisive fifth set after winning the fourth 25-22.
The Lady Lions quickly jumped ahead to a 6-11 lead in the fifth set, with Allie Humphry's service ace forcing a Blue Raider time-out. Again, the discussion at the break was successful, with Lindsey Wilson winning nine out of the next 11 points to stun Freed-Hardeman with a 15-13 final set.
Celebrating senior night, it comes as no surprise that Kacey Donegan led her team with a double-double: a team-high 19 kills, and 16 digs. Jayden Watkins followed behind with 10 kills. Allie Humphry and Adleigh Mayes continue to set up their hitters for success, posting 21 and 20 assists, respectively. Bryce Morris showed out on her big night, pulling up 24 digs, while Ann Elise Jackson tallied five total blocks.
