BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball squad saw its 2022 campaign come to a conclusion with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 25-12) loss at the hands of Georgetown (Ky.) College in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Drawing the tournament's No. 8 seed, Freed-Hardeman (16-15, 5-10 MSC) fell behind after a service Georgetown service ace started the tournament. It was a bad omen for the Lady Lions, who saw the No. 9 seed Tigers put down eight service aces in the first set. FHU's hitters were able to side out with eight kills in the set, with Avery Young tallying two of her team-high five blocks.

Georgetown (7-19, 5-9 MSC) jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the second set before Allie Humphry run at the service line saw Bryce Morris and Kacey Donegan go back-to-back with kills. The Lady Lions crept back into the second set, eventually drawing even at 14-14 after Ashlynne Clifft planted a kill. From there, the Tigers went on a 5-0 run to separate, eventually winning the set 25-18.

The Lady Lions and Tigers had a feisty third set with FHU hoping to avoid a sweep. In a set that saw 14 ties and eight lead changes, it was a late run by the girls in maroon that gave FHU the set win. Donegan and Harris teamed up with Jayden Watkins to provide some late offense, while Harris and Ann Elise Jackson posted a block to give FHU the set win 25-20.

Any hopes of an FHU comeback were dashed in the fourth set when Georgetown exploded to a 17-2 lead with six service aces and three blocks before the Lady Lions were able to tally a kill off of the hand of Donegan. With a kill from the Tigers setting the score at 25-12, the match and FHU's season ended in a 3-1 final score.

Kacey Donegan ended her night with an eight-kill, 14-dig effort.  Avery Harris led the Lady Lion blockers with five stuffs, while Adleigh Mayes led FHU with 15 assists
