Box Score Henderson, Tenn– In what was a revenge game from their previous meeting on Jan 6th, the Freed-Hardeman Lions men's basketball team split the season series with the Cumberlands Patriots with their 87-75 senior day victory on Saturday at Brewer Sports Center.
Both teams got off to a strong start, with points coming from both the paint and behind the arc. The Lions (18-11, 13-9 MSC) controlled most of the first half, but the three-point shooting of the Patriots (19-11, 13-9 MSC) kept them from extending any kind of lead. After the three-minute mark, Cumberlands went on a 13-5 run to close out the half, leading 36-34 at the break.
Both teams continued to shoot well from the field in the second half, with the Lions finishing just over 52%. Freed-Hardeman poured it on in the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Patriots 55-37 in the second half, leading to an 87-75 home victory.
Geraldo Lane led the Lions in scoring with 20 points and five rebounds, while shooting an amazing 8-9 from the field. The Lions got a huge second half performance from leading scorer Kortland Martin who, after shooting 0-5 in the first half, put up 15 points, two rebounds and three assists. Hunter Scurlock and Wanya King also added 11 points each.
Up Next: After finishing out the regular season on a two-game winning streak, the Lions will host the first round of the MSC Conference Tournament on Tuesday night at 6PM Brewer Sports Center.
