Box Score The Freed-Hardeman University Lions split their season series against the Firehawks of UT Southern Thursday night with a score of 91-71.
The Lions came out firing on all cylinders. During the first half, the team was very efficient on the offensive end. The Lions shot 63% from the field and made 50% of their threes (6-12) while only turning the ball over three times. At the end of the half, the Lions were up 44-29.
In the second half, Kortland Martin and Jeremiah Alexander both scored double digits to help maintain the Lions' lead. The team brought down nine more rebounds than the Firehawks in the second half as well as making 60% of their threes which helped them retain a 20-point lead by the end of the game.
Martin led the team's scoring with 23 points, making 7 out of 10 threes. Four more Lions scored double digits in the win. Alexander scored 15, Geraldo Lane and Wanye King scored 12, and Riley McClaran scored 10. Alexander also contributed by grabbing 12 rebounds, finishing the game with a double double.
After tonight's win, the Lions improved their record to 14-9 (9-7 MSC). The team looks forward to their next conference contest at Life University Saturday, February 5.
