Lane def. Freed-Hardeman, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 26-24, 25-19)
by Dustin Semore, Sports Information Director
The earlier victory over Crowley's Ridge saw its celebration cut short when the Lady Lions matched up on the court with the hosting Lane (Tenn.) College Dragons. FHU fell to the Dragons in five sets earlier in the season, dropping the second match of the evening 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 26-24, 25-19).
The Lady Lions (8-4, 1-0 MSC) fell down by six points before a Lane attack error put the ball into the hands of the Lady Lions, who would go on a 7-1 run of their own to close the gap. Ultimately, the quick start by the Dragons (9-5, 1-0 SIAC) proved too much to overcome with FHU dropping the first set 25-22.
FHU answered back with their best set of the night on the attack. The ladies in maroon slammed down 16 kills to the Dragons' nine. With 33 attacks, only four offset as errors to give FHU a 36.4% attack rating. Avery Harris's kill with FHU sitting on set point tied affairs at 1-1 with a 25-20 set.
.A service ace by Harris kept the sophomore on the service line with set point in the pivotal third set before a service error sided the ball out to the Dragons, who took advantage of two more FHU errors to win the frame 26-24.
Lane came out hot in the fourth set, opening with a 7-1 streak to send a packed J.F. Lane Gymnasium into a frenzy. Slowly, kills from Kacey Donegan and Jayden Watkins moved the Lady Lions into striking distance. After trading points through most of the rest of the set, Lane's early advantage assisted them to the 25-19 set win, cementing the 3-1 match victory.
Donegan led the team in kills while picking up her third double-double in five matches with 13 kills and 11 digs. Harris's three service aces paced the Lady Lions, while Bryce Morris's 14 digs kept the Lady Lions alive from the back row.
