CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University ran up against the high-flying attack of the Lady Tigers of Campbellsville (Ky.) University. For the first time this season, the Lady Lions were unable to pick up a set win, falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-9).
Despite falling behind early in the first set, FHU (8-5, 1-1 MSC) clawed their way back within one point after a pair of kills from Ashlynne Clifft and Jayden Watkins set the score at 15-14 in favor of the Tigers. From there, the hosts rattled off a 6-1 run to put separation between the Lions and Tigers before the latter won the set 25-18. The Lady Lions hit an even 0.000, recording the same number of kills and errors at seven.
It was all Freed-Hardeman to begin the second set, opening on a 5-1 run. Any momentum that may have been with FHU shifted to Campbellsville (7-3, 4-0 MSC) who quickly rattled off six unanswered points to take a 7-5 lead. The girls in maroon found themselves tied with Campbellsville 18-18 after Catherine Hackett placed two of her team-high eight kills. The Tigers would string together a set of rallies to end the set in victory 25-20.
The Lady Lions had a difficult time working out the Campbellsville serving attack in the third set, as the Tigers recorded five of their match's 10 service aces in the finale. Despite a couple of kills from Watkins and Kacey Donegan, FHU could not fight out of the rut to lose the third set 25-9.
Freshman Hackett led her Lady Lions with eight kills with Bryce Morris leading the team from the back row with 19 digs.
