Women's volleyball falls to Blue Raiders

COLUMBIA, KY. — In the home stretch of their 2023 regular season, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions fell in their season's penultimate match in straight sets to the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College.

The first set saw the Lady Lions (13-14, 0-11 MSC) pull within one point after three straight kills from Ann Elise Jackson made the score 10-9 in favor of the hosting Blue Raiders. Late in the set, LWC would win six of the last seven rallies to win the opening frame 25-18.

Lindsey Wilson (16-14, 6-5 MSC) opened the second set on a tear, collecting seven straight points - all from kills - to force an FHU time out. Avery Harris and Avery Young would connect for kills late in the set, but the early run was too much to overcome, as the Blue Raiders claimed the second set 25-17.

Alanys Ruíz Rivera would open the third set with a pair of kills to help the Lady Lions stay within reach of a 7-6 deficit. As was the case in the previous two sets, the Lady Lions were unable to string together points, with LWC going on an 8-2 run in the middle of the set to take an 18-10 lead. Two more kills from Jackson would narrow the gap to 24-19, but the Blue Raiders would win the next point to put the finishing touch on a 3-0 match win.

Alanys Ruíz Rivera led FHU with a 10-kill effort, followed by Ann Elise Jackson's seven kills. Charley Fulton grabbed 16 digs from the back row while Masey Kate Adams led the Lady Lions with 16 assists.
