GWINNETT, Ga. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions began their individual fall campaign at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southern Regional hosted at Georgia Gwinnett College. Winners of this tournament will automatically qualify for the ITA Cup to be hosted in Rome, Georgia in mid-October.

Hannah Pearce led off the day for the Lady Lions, being beaten by Middle Georgia State's Liza Hinrichs 6-0, 6-1. Michelle Lancaster won by default in the opening round, and met the No. 6 overall seed Alacaria Gurri of Tennessee Wesleyan University where the senior was topped 6-0, 6-0. 

Morgan Brown drew Tennessee Wesleyan's Raquel Canedas and fell in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while Elise Kruzan lost to Lauren Perez of Point (Ga.) University 6-2, 6-0.

GWINNETT, Ga. — Finishing their run in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's south regional, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions played four very competitive matches in the consolation bracket.

Michelle Lancaster easily advanced to the second round after topping Reinhardt (Ga.) University'a Malecki 6-1, 6-1. A full day of Reinhardt opposition saw Morgan Brown fall to the Eagles' Nina Thomet 6-0, 6-2, while Elise Kruzan won her first set against Tiffany le Roux 3-6, before dropping the second set 6-0 and losing in the tiebreaker.

Lancaster hoped to avenge Brown when the former met up with Thomet in the second round. Lancaster won the first set 4-6 before Thomet bounced back to with the second set 6-2 and the tiebreaker to end the Lady Lions' first appearance of the year.
