Ruiz Rivera and Jackson lead Lady Lions to smash Pioneers

PARAGOULD, Ark. — After a short losing skid, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions got back on track with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) victory over the Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) College Lady Pioneers. FHU smacked 51 kills in the sweep, hitting .278.

Ann Elise Jackson lit the fire for the Lady Lions (9-4, 0-1 MSC) by sandwiching a pair of kills around a block with Catherine Hackett to collect the first three points. Alanys Ruíz Rivera would take the mantle by marking a tally in three major categories with an assist, a kill, and a block on consecutive rallies to push ahead and help the Lady Lions to a 25-16 set win.

The middle frame proved a tougher task with Crowley's Ridge (3-2, 0-0 CAC) utilizing a 5-0 run to tie the set at 11-11. Ruíz Rivera helped get FHU back on track with a pair of kills around a kill from Avery Harris, eventually forcing a Pioneer timeout at 18-15. CRC would battle back to tie the set 22-22, but FHU would close the set with a 4-0 run to win 25-22.

FHU would find themselves trailing 9-6 in the third set before Young would smash three kills in four rallies to help claim a lead. After CRC climbed back to tie at 15-15, Hackett notched a kill that would begin a 7-0 run to help lead the Lady Lions to a 25-17 set win to claim the sweep.

Alanys Ruíz Rivera smacked a season-high 15 kills in the three-set match with Ann Elise Jackson hot on her heels with a career-high 13 kills at a .550 clip. Charley Fulton led the back row with 29 digs, while Masey Kate Adams had a double-double with 10 digs to go with her season-high 43 assists. Avery Young helped out with 15 digs.
