ST. LOUIS — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions soccer team dropped their mid-week contest to the Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University Hornets 4-2 on Thursday afternoon.
It was an uphill battle for the Lady Lions (0-5-0) after the hosting Hornets tallied their first goal at 6:24. The lead was short-lived when
Laura Kuehnhenrich perfectly timed a header off of a free kick from
Cicely Tharp to tally her first goal of the season at 8:30.
The scores remained level until 34:17 when Harris-Stowe (7-0-0) tallied their second goal of the match before padding their lead with a third goal at 41:51.
The Lady Lions pulled back within one goal after a free kick from the center line bounced a few times in the box before settling on the boot of
Sophia Haddad de Lima for her first career goal at 66:45. Hopes for an equalizer were dashed when the Hornets added a fourth goal at 80:54.
Brooke Latham was kept on her toes between the pipes, facing 17 total shots and collecting a season-high 13 saves.
