NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Stepping out of Mid-South Conference play, the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University defeated the Fisk (Tenn.) Univeristy Bulldogs in straight sets 3-0 (27-25, 25-14, 25-21).

Service aces from Avery Harris and Alanys Ruíz Rivera capped a 7-2 run for the Lady Lions (11-10) and helped the maroon and white jump out to a 10-5 advantage in the first set. The Bulldogs answered in turn with a 7-2 run of their own to knot the set 12-12. Coming out a timeout, Avery Young smashed a kill to start a three-point turn by FHU. Tied at 25-25, the Lady Lions scored the two points needed to win the set after a Ruiz Rivera kill was followed by a Fisk error to win the opener 27-25.

In the second set, the Lady Lions took five consecutive points from the Bulldogs (14-12) to jump out to an 11-5 edge. A kill from Catherine Hackett set the score at 22-14 before Charley Fulton's ace gave FHU a 2-0 match lead after winning the middle set 25-14.

Fisk jumped out to an 9-5 lead before a Cate Schroer kill opened a four-point run to tie the set 9-9. The Lady Lions then scored five of the next six points with a Fisk attack error putting FHU on top 14-12. The Bulldogs mounted a late comeback to draw within one point and forced an FHU timeout nursing a 21-20 lead. Audrey Orton came out of the break with two kills and an ace to help push the Lady Lions to the 25-21 set win to secure the sweep.
