Double-doubles from Law, Horton lead to Lion win

JACKSON, Miss. — The No. 4 Freed-Hardeman University Lions shot 50.8% from the floor while holding the Tougaloo (Miss.) College Bulldogs to a 38.3% clip in a 91-73 victory.

The Lions (2-0) got things rolling when Peyton Law's jumper was followed by a 3-pointer from Ryley McClaran. The Bulldogs; however, would not go away easily, with the hosts dropping a triple at 9:55 to tie the game at 14-14. Phil Horton would respond in kind to spark a six-point run for the Lions ending with Blake Dean knocking down a set of free throws to hold a 19-14 lead with 7:40 remaining in the first half. FHU would add separation down the stretch of the first half, scoring nine points across two minutes to take a 35-22 lead into the locker room.

A 3-pointer from Tougaloo (0-2) welcomed the Lions back onto the floor, but Jordan Stephens would record five points in quick succession to maintain a double-digit lead. Geraldo Lane joined Stephens at 15:30 with a 2-pointer followed by a triple. At 9:38, Stephens tallied back-to-back scores to open up a 9-9 stretch from the floor to extend the Lions' lead to 75-58. The Lions would convert late free throws to ice their second win of the season with a 91-73 victory.

Despite being out-rebounded 37-29, the Lions forced 19 Tougaloo turnovers, leading to 22 poitns being scored off of turnovers.

Peyton Law paced the FHU offense, going 10-14 from the floor to secure a game-high 23 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Phil Horton bucketed 16 points while earning a double-double by pulling down 12 rebounds. Jordan Stephens and Jayson Nixon helped the FHU offense with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
