TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions have scored more points in the fourth quarter than any other quarter. That have proved beneficial Tuesday night in a 77-61 victory over the Stillman (Ala.) College Tigers.
Despire Stillman scoring the first points of the game, Freed-Hardeman (11-0) sprinted out of the starting blocks with a 10-0 run including back-to-back 3-pointers from
Rachel Satterly and
Carissa Curtis. FHU went on another late run inside the paint with buckets from
Kelsey Bender and
Jenna Satterly highlighting an eight-point run. After an old-fashioned three-point play to end the quarter, FHU had a comfortable 26-12 lead.
Turnovers helped out the Stillman (7-4) squad in the first half, scoring 20 points off of turnovers. The Tigers got hot at the right time with the last three shots of the first half coming from long range to narrow the gap to see FHU's lead dwindle to 39-34.
After ending the first half shooting 68% from the floor, the other half of the court proved to be less kind to the Lady Lion shooters, needing seven tries to record their first points from the field when R. Satterly's 3-pointer made FHU's lead 44-42 with 6:05 left in the third period. Curtis added a triple, but for every FHU score Stillman had an answer. With a 55-55 deadlock, the final 10 minutes would determine the victor.
While the third quarter was tough for FHU's shooters, the fourth was the bane of the Tigers who missed their first seven shots of the decisive frame. In the meantime,
Brooklyn Crouch would team up with R. Satterly with three straight 3-pointers to stun the Tigers with an 68-55 lead with 6:40 left in the game. Late layups put the game away for FHU in the 77-61 victory.
In their 11 games this season, the Lady Lions are out-scoring their opponents 208-167 in the final quarter. Freed-Hardeman dominated the glass by grabbing 36 rebounds to Stillman's 25.Â
Rachel Satterly was a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring a game-high 18 points while grabbing a game-high nine boards.
Kaylee Odom was 6-12 from the floor to bucket 15 points while
Carissa Curtis had three 3-pointers to help her score 11.
Brooklyn Crouch chipped in with a 10-point effort in the victory.
Kelsey Bender helped with a team-high five of the Lady Lions' 13 assists.
