LAKELAND, Fla. — Retaking the field following a loss, the No. 20 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions used a pair of two-run innings to split the day with the Keiser (Fla.) University Seahawks.. FHU claimed their first win of the season with a 5-2 victory.
Alivia Eggleston got the scoring started for the Lady Lions (1-1) after three scoreless frames.
Brooklyn Jimmerson led off the top of the fourth with a two-bagger to left field, followed by back-to-back singles from
Chloe Carter and
Brinley Cousar. It was Eggleston's single that eked in the right-field line that was enough to score Jimmerson. Cousar would score on the next play to take the sting out of a double play and claim a 2-0 lead.
The Seahawks (1-1) made things interesting in the bottom of the fifth inning after a set of walks and a double scored the first KU run of the game. FHU would then tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning after two walks and an error set the table for
Grayson Mayo to score on an error and Emillee Moorehead to touch home thanks to
Natalie Gilmore's RBI single to put FHU up 4-1. Keiser would plate a two-out run in the bottom of the sixth, but FHU held on to their lead to claim the 4-2 victory.
Kylee Brown (1-0) got the win in her first start, striking out three in the complete game victory.
Natalie Gilmore had the hot bat, going 3-4 from the dish and driving in a run.
Alivia Eggleston and
Brooklyn Jimmerson each had a pair of hits.
