Turnovers haunt Lady Lions in loss to #11 Tigers

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The No. 20 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions coughed up the ball 16 times to see the No. 11 Georgetown (Ky.) College Tigers even the season series with FHU taking a 60-46 loss Thursday night.

The first five minutes of the game saw the Lady Lions (19-5, 5-3 MSC) and the Tigers swap baskets with Rachel Satterly's three-point play giving the Lady Lions a 10-8 edge with 4:58 remaining in the quarter. Those points would be the last FHU would score until the final shot of the quarter, with Georgetown going on an 11-0 run. Satterly would hit a 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining, but the Tiger run put the Lady Lions down 19-13 after the opening 10 minutes.

Kaylee Odom had a big second quarter, scoring six points against the Tigers (20-4, 5-3 MSC) in the second quarter. Down by nine points with 4:53 remaining in the half, Kalea Fleming-Eckerle and Elli Chumley would join Odom to end the half on a 6-0 spell, moving to intermission with a 26-23 score in favor of Georgetown.

The third quarter was one of momentum swings at the free-throw line. In the quarter, GC would score eight unanswered points with four of those coming from the charity stripe. Following that, the Lady Lions would score five of their six points to wrap up the third quarter with free throws to end the quarter down 41-34.

Both the Lady Lions and the Tigers swapped baskets in the fourth quarter with neither team scoring successive unanswered baskets until the Tigers scored the final four points of the game, finishing up the contest with FHU taking the 60-46 loss.

FHU committed 16 turnovers compared to the five they forced. GC turned those giveaways into 13 points, while the Lady Lions managed three points off of turnovers. 

Rachel Satterly's 7-11 day from the floor helped her to a team-high 19 points while also pacing the Lady Lions with eight rebounds. Kaylee Odom had the other double-digit game, scoring 13 points.
