Lions open MSC play with victory

COLUMBIA, Ky. — The No. 18 Freed Hardeman University Lions (20-6, 1-0 MSC) defeated the Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College Blue Raiders (12-1, 0-1 MSC) by a score of 7-6. Adam Smithson and Cam Madding led the Lions with two hits each.

In the top of the third inning, JJ Pruneau led off for the Lions and reached first base with a hit by pitch. After Austin Johnson courtesy ran for Pruneau, he got into scoring position with a stolen base. Adam Smithson records his first hit and brings home the first run of the ballgame was the RBI single and helps the Lions lead 1-0. 

Desipte the Lions falling behind 2-1, they did not slow down. JJ Pruneau led off the inning with a single into right field. Christian Presley was sent home on the RBI single to even the score 2-2 for the Lions. After back-to-back walks for the Lions, Jordan Carter was able to bring home one runner with a single and made the score 3-2 in favor of the Lions.

Fast forwarding to a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning, Christian Presley was hit by pitch before an Adam Smithson single, setting up Brady Spring to triples and bring home both runners to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Lions. Jordan Carter brought home the sixth run of the game with a hard hit ball to the left fielder to make the score 6-3 Lions. After a little more scoring, the Lions were able to close out the ballgame 7-6.

Colton Huntt (5-2) got the start for the Lions and the win. Colton Huntt pitched six innings allowing six hits, three earned runs, and strck out eleven batters. Matthew Riley (1) got the save for the Lions pitching three innings allowing three hits three runs and striking out three batters. 

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow, March 16, for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. against Blue Raiders.
