HENDERSON - The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions handled business against the Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Eagle for their first home game of the 2024 season this Tuesday. This match was the last first home game for for four of the Lady Lion leaders graduating this year:
Charley Fulton,
Avery Harris,
Adleigh Mayes, and
Alanys Ruíz Rivera. This senior class is a special one; showing much talent, energy, and leadership.
Set one saw the Lady Lions (1-4) dominate over the Eagles, going on a seven-point run to keep the lead for the rest of the set.
Iza Wos earned three service aces throughout her seven-point serving streak. This was followed to seal the set with kills from
Audrey Orton, Harris, and
Avery Young.
In the second set, Williams Baptist (1-7) battled back in a set which saw the Eagles hold the lead for the first nine points. Down 7-8, Freed-Hardeman got kills by Harris and Young to spark a run that the Lady Lions would keep throughout the set.
The third set was another fast run by the Lady Lions filled with kills from Wos,
Catherine Hackett, Ruiz Rivera, Young, and Orton. The Eagles tried to close the gap, but Freed-Hardeman remained strong to the finish to start off their season at home.
The Lady Lions dominated at the service line, recording 12 aces to the Eagles' one. FHU also had the strong attack by recording 44 kills to WBU's 12.
Alanys Ruíz Rivera led the attack with a team-high 10 kills and four aces while
Alyssa Austin set up 19 assists.
Charley Fulton pulled up 15 digs.
