HENDERSON — This past Tuesday, the Lady Lions faced in-state rival Bethel (Tenn.) University. Freed-Hardeman fell in their conference opener in straight sets 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-17).
The Lions (5-6, 0-1 MSC) and Wildcats played each other evenly midway through the first set, tied at 14.
Iza Wos and Alanys Ruíz Rivera went to work for Freed-Hardeman, but Bethel eventually gained separation to take a 1-0 set advantage.
The second set saw Bethel (8-2, 1-0 MSC) take control early and win the set 25-12.
Avery Young and
Avery Harris combined for 17 kills on 43 total attacks in the three-set loss, with
Adleigh Mayes also adding 17 assists.

The Lady Lions will play in the UHSP Tournament this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri. They will play Evangel (Mo.) and St. Francis (Ill.) at 12:30 and 4:30 on Friday then York (Neb.) and Friends (Kan.) at 8:30 and 12:30 on Saturday.
