FHU soccer draws with Brescia in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — With the rain putting the Josh Riley Soccer Complex underwater, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions soccer team graced the artificial turf of the University School of Jackson where they faced the Brescia (Ky.) University Bearcats. The clubs traded goals until the final whistle finalized the 2-2 draw.

Freed-Hardeman (5-0-2) jumped on the scoreboard first when Brandon Carrillo pulled the Brescia keeper way out of his box and dribbled to one side before firing into a wide open net to score his second goal of the season in the 43rd minute. The celebration did not last long when the Bearcats netted a goal just before the halftime whistle sounded to end the first half tied 1-1.

A little over four minutes into the second half, the Lions jumped back on top when Thabo Mahala pinged the crossbar not once but twice; however, on the second rebound, Malachi Albrecht gathered and fired to score his first of the season at 49:57. But in the 78th minute, a Bearcat (0-5-2) remained onside by half a step before his equalizing goal went over the shoulder of Eduardo Almansa.

The Lions had plenty of opportunities for offense, firing 22 shots to Brescia's six. The Bearcat keeper notched 10 saves in the draw.
