Mahlaha's pair of goals lead Lions to win

HENDERSON — Playing their second match in two days, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions battled the heat to collect a 5-2 victory over the Louisiana State University at Alexandria Generals.

It was the opposition that netted the first goal when the Lions (4-0-1) watched as an LSUA attacker curled a shot from just outside of the box before it was deflected into the net in the ninth minute. FHU battled back in at 15:17 when Thabang Machaka's shot pinged off of the crossbar before Seabata Ts'emane collected the rebound before netting his second goal of the season. Vicente Georgi followed less than 10 minutes later when he moved from the goal line toward the box where he scored the Lions' second goal of the match at 24:56.

It took a while, but the eventual game-winner over LSUA (2-3-0) was netted in the 44th minute when Ts'emane sent a pass from the corner of the box to the middle of the goal area where Noah Setterberg one-timed it into the net for his third goal of the year to give FHU a 3-1 lead.

The second half was all about Thabo Mahlaha with Setterberg sending a pass from the top of the box for Mahlaha to net his third goal of the season at 70:22. After LSUA cut into the lead, Mahlaha put the game away in the 74th minute after a brilliant pass from Brandon Carrillo was collected by Mahlaha who put a bow on the 5-2 victory.

Between the pipes, Eduardo Almansa picked up his first collegiate victory with four saves.
