LEBANON, Tenn. — The score was the same in all three sets when the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball team visited the (RV) Cumberland Phoenix. Unfortunately the Lady Lions were on the losing end of a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) match.
Freed-Hardeman (13-12, 1-6 MSC) had a big tandem block from
Audrey Orton and
Iza Wos before Orton's smash knotted the opening set early at 5-5. The Phoenix would go on a five-point swing before topping it with a 6-0 run to take an 18-11 lead.
Autumn Howard's service ace hoped to push Lady Lion points, but Cumberland took the 25-18 first set.
The Lady Lions took an early lead in the second set with
Avery Young and
Marija Milic teaming up for a black to give FHU a 6-3 lead over the Phoenix (22-10, 5-3 MSC). But CU made an adjustment and scored the next nine points to jump out to a 14-7 edge. Orton and Young were joined by
Hope Breen with late kills but Cumberland won the set 25-18.
FHU registered 11 kills in the final frame with Milic's making the score 9-6 in favor of the hosts, but Cumberland had a match-high 14 kills to win the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Audrey Orton led the FHU attack with nine kills while
Iza Wos and
Avery Young followed with six each. Orton also led the Lady Lions with 17 digs with
Autumn Howard following with 11. The 6-2 rotation saw
Alyssa Austin have 13 assists with
Becca Heineman earning 11.
