HENDERSON — Celebrating homecoming on Saturday, the No. 6 Freed-Hardeman Univesrity Lady Lions battled past the Bryan (Tenn.) College Lions for a 65-55 victory.
The guests battled strong to opened the matchup by bucketing two quick scores while holding the Lady Lions (5-0) without a field goal until
Rachel Satterly's 3-pointer at 8:04 pulled FHU within one point with Bryan leading 6-5. R. Satterly and
Jenna Satterly each tallied fast break layups to keep the game tied 14-14. Bryan added back-to-back steal and scores before
Lilly Kee was a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. A buzzer-beating 3-pointer from BC gave the visiting Lions a 23-20 lead after one quarter.
J. Satterly ignited in the second frame to tally four 3-pointers and vault the Lady Lions to a 32-27 lead over the Bryan (2-2) Lions. FHU allowed Bryan just two field goals in the frame, with J. Satterly adding a buzzer-beater of her own to give FHU a 36-30 intermission lead.
Bryan made a big comeback to open the half with a 3-pointer on the first shot of the second half before a layup narrowed FHU's lead to a single points at 36-35. J. Satterly took over with back-to-back mid-rangers to put the Lady Lions back up by five. Unwilling to back down, a last-minute layup ended the third quarter with FHU leading 50-48.
Freed-Hardeman was finally able to add separation in the fourth quarter beginning with
Ally Weathers' layup and ending with R. Satterly's layup at 3:13 making the lead double figures at 62-52. Good free throws down the stretch helped secure the homecoming win 65-55.
The Lady Lions' bench helped by scoring 35 points to Bryan's sixth men's 10.
Jenna Satterly led all scorers with 21 points including a 4-4 mark from beyond the arc.
Lilly Kee secured a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Rachel Satterly joined the crowd with a 14-point effort while
Ally Weathers added 10. Weathers led FHU with four assists.
