Lions down #2 Tigers

HENDERSON — The regular season finale pitted the No. 4 Freed-Hardeman University Lions and the No. 2 Georgetown College Tigers for a heavyweight clash. FHU's defense stood strong to complete the season sweep of the Tigers with a 71-63 win.

The Lions (23-5, 8-4 MSC) had a dominant start with layups from Peyton Law and Phil Horton being capped by a 3-pointer from Ryley McClaran giving FHU a 10-3 lead. Sam Powell contributed with back-to-back long balls at the midway mark to put the Lions on top 22-11. The Lions forced consistent bad shooting from Georgetown wit the Tigers going 6-25 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Law tallied a free throw and a 3-pointer to give the Lions their largest lead of the half at 36-19 at intermission.

Georgetown (25-3, 9-3 MSC) fought back strong on the second half, scoring six straight points on the fast break before finding their stroke from beyond the arc with back-to-back long balls at 17:12 narrowing FHU's lead to nine. FHU spread the love with McClaran, Horton, Brian Carter, and Geraldo Lane each helping on an 8-0 run to push FHU's lead back to 14 points. Down the stretch, the Lions were ony able to hit free throws while Georgetown was tallying 3-pointers with the one at 3:42 making it a two-possession game with the Lions leading 62-56. The Lions held the Tigers at bay until the final horn for the 71-63 victory.

FHU's bench tallied 31 points to Georgetown's 11. 

Peyton Law finished his regular season strong with a 19-point effort in the win. Sam Powell was 3-7 from long range to help him to 11 points while Blake Dean added 10 points. Geraldo Lane joined Law with a team-high seven rebounds.
