Women's basketball advances to quarterfinal

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A big first half by the No. 2 seed Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions helped them to a round of 16 victory in the 2025 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Presented by Ballogy over the No. 14 seed Indiana Tech Warriors 54-43.

It took over two and a half minutes for the teams to feel each other out before the Lady Lions (28-5) got on the board with jumpers from Brooklyn Crouch and Kaylee Odom before Rachel Satterly's 3-pointer make it a 7-0 lead for FHU. Jenna Satterly joined with a triple to give the Lady Lions an 11-point lead before a late push by the Warriors ended the first quarter with FHU leading 14-6.

Kaylee Odom made it a double digit lead with the first bucket of the second frame. For every basket the Lady Lions scored the Warriors (27-6) answered until Lilly Kee and Carissa Curtis went back-to-back from long distance to end the first half with a 27-14 lead.

The Warriors entered the second half on fire by scoring the first nine points to make it a two-possession game before R. Satterly's layup set up a 3-pointer from Curtis to expand the FHU lead. Curtis added another 3-pointer in the final minute of the quarter to enter the final quarter with a 37-26 FHU lead.

After R. Satterly and Curtis joined forces to give FHU their largest lead at 16, Indiana Tech tried to continue their season with a nine-point unanswered run to make it a seven-point game, but 3-pointers from R. Satterly and Alaina Stiles cemented the 54-43 victory for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions shot 42% from the floor while holding the opposition to a 29% mark. The Lady Lions attempted just one free throw in the game, connecting for it while Indiana Tech was 11-17 from the line. FHU's bench scored 25 points to the Warriors' 11.

Carissa Curtis and Rachel Satterly shared the team high of 12 points with Curtis going 4-5 from long range. Kelsey Bender grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Lions while joining Brooklyn Crouch with five assists.
