OWENSBORO, Ky. — Finishing their three-match road trip to begin the 2025 season the Freed-Hardeman University Lions scraped by the hosting Brescia (Ky.) University Bearcats with a 1-0 final.
The Lions (3-0-0) and the hosts battled in the midfield a majority of the match with both clubs combining for just 14 total shots in the affair. Of those 14, just three were on target. Brescia make FHU's
Eduardo Almansa work early with the Spaniard needing to record a save at 1:46.Â
Avery Flener's header in the ninth minute was the first attempt by the Lions, but the shot sailed wide of the net.
It was late in the game when the Lions netted the game-winner over Brescia (0-3-0) when Flener fired a cross toward the net that hit the crossbar. Luckily for FHU,
Samuel Sebagabo was in the right place where the ricochet landed squarely on his boot and into the goal to give FHU the 1-0 victory.
Thabo Mahlaha led the Lions with three attempts with one of his shots being the only other Lion shot being on goal.
The save for
Eduardo Almansa in the second minute was the only save he recorded in the clean sheet.
