HENDERSON — Freed-Hardeman University's Lion soccer team ended a busy day of FHU athletics with a 3-0 victory over the Midway (Ky.) University Eagles from three different scorers.
The Lions (7-0-0) got on the board just over 10 minutes into the match when
Tiro Nong had an open look, but fooled all 11 defenders by passing to
Martin Theissen who was able to bury the shot to take an early lead. FHU kept Midway on their heels in the match with the Eagles only managing one shot in the opening 45 minutes.
Another quick strike to start the second half kept moment on the Lions' side when Theissen's pass crossed the box at 51:08 where
Thabo Mahlaha was eagerly waiting to strike the second goal of the match home. The Lions put the match out of reach at 64:11 when Mahlaha timed a pass to
Avery Flener past the defenders where Flener put the touch on his team-leading fifth goal of the season to secure the 3-0 victory.
The Lion defense allowed just six shots toward
Eduardo Almansa's net with all six being off target.Â
