CONWAY, Ark. — Participating in their first match of the Central Baptist College Classic, the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University earned a 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-21) sweep against the Tougaloo (Miss.) College Bulldogs.
The Lady Lions (5-2) put their foot on the gas early in the match with three service aces lifting FHU to a 10-2 lead.
Avery Young would notch back-to-back aces to anchor a 6-0 run to push the lead to 16-4. A Tougaloo attack error put an end to the 25-10 set where the maroon and white recorded a match-high 15 kills.
Tougaloo (0-2) took advantage of a slow start to the second set by jumping out to a 5-1 lead. FHU would pull back within one point with
Becca Heinemans's kill putting the deficit at 9-8. The Bulldogs added mor separation with five straight points. A timeout righted the ship with the Lady Lions scoring 12 of the next 15 points with a
Marija Milic ace making it a 20-15 FHU lead.
Hope Breen's kill gave FHU the 25-20 win.
The final set featured three ties and one lead change including an ace from Heineman to give the Lady Lions a 13-12 lead in the middle of the frame. Back-to-back kills from
Iza Wos put the Bulldogs away to give FHU the set and match victory.
As a team the Lady Lions recorded 40 kills at a .207 clip to the Bulldogs' 12 kills hitting -.061% in the match.
Hope Breen and
Iza Wos led the FHU attack with eight kills each.
Becca Heineman had a team-high eight digs to go with her three aces.
Marija Milic led the charge with five aces with
Alyssa Austin's 21 assists making her the leading helper.

FHU will have and early and a late match to wrap the CBC Classic first facing Dallas Christian (Texas) at 10:00 a.m. before finishing the day at 5:30 p.m. against the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) in the Eagles' debut season.
