FHU drops 13 threes to defeat Tigers

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Nearly doubling up the opposition in the second half, the No. 2 Freed-Hardeman University Lions tallied 13 3-pointers to defeat the Campbellsville University Tigers, 80-48, to stay perfect in league play.

The first five minutes of the contest featured six 3-point makes with the Lions (19-1, 4-0 MSC) sharing the scoring between Caleb Thomas, Rico Sain, and Blake Dean. Lane Lauderbaugh joined with a triple in the middle of an 11-point FHU run that ended with the Lions leading 19-9 with 13:03 left in the first half. Dean added two more triples before Sain's layup in the final minute gave Freed-Hardeman a 35-24 edge at intermission.

Though Thomas opened the second frame with a trey, the hosting Tigers (14-5, 0-3 MSC) mounted an 11-0 run to pull within two possessions of FHU with a 43-37 score at 12:59. The Lions; however, would swing momentum back their way to the tune of a 21-5 run across the last seven minutes of the MSC matchup. The longest stretch was a 15-point run highlighted by 3-pointers from DJ McIntyre and Phil Horton. Rodney Henderson's layup in the last minute settled the score on the 80-48 Lion win.
