CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Two days after their first setback, the No. 5 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions answered with a victory over the No. 3 Campbellsville University Tigers, 67-56.
Brooklyn Crouch opened the contest with the first of her 20 points with a 3-pointer to give the Lady Lions (18-1, 3-1 MSC) an early lead. The Tigers answered with five straight points before Crouch tallied seven straight points, joined by layups from
Lilly Kee and
Carissa Curtis. Despite the FHU flurry, Campbellsville put up seven points to end the half with a 18-14 lead.
The Lady Tigers (16-3, 1-2 MSC) scored the first four points of the half to take an eight-point lead, but Kee chipped away with a set of layups before
Jenna Satterly's jumper made it a 22-20 deficit for FHU. After trading scores, Crouch's three late points finished the first half with FHU trailing 26-24.
Campbellsville again started the third quarter with a flurry, scoring five points within the first 90 seconds. Curtis gave FHU their first points of the second half with a 3-pointer before another one knotted the game 35-35 with
Ally Weathers' free throws giving FHU the lead. Curtis and Satterly sank late triples to put the Lady Lions on top 44-40 after three complete quarters.
Needing a big quarter to keep the perennial powerhouse Tigers at bay, FHU answered with a 23-point fourth. Though CU's 3-pointer at 8:15 gave the hosts the lead, Kee's layup sparked a nine-point run ending with FHU on top 55-47. Though Curtis' 3-pointer at 4:53 was the final field goal of the contest for FHU, the Lady Lions scored 14 points from the charity stripe across the last five minutes of the game to complete the 67-56 win.
The Lady Lions bucketed seven 3-pointers while the Tigers made two. The Lady Lion ball-handling was on full display with 18 combined assists in the victory.
Brooklyn Crouch led FHU with a season-high 20 points while
Carissa Curtis and
Lilly Kee each added 14 points.
Ally Weathers grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while
Jenna Satterly joined Curtis with five assists.
