GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball's 15.0 blocks were the most in a single match since 2022 in FHU's 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 25-20, 14-25, 17-15) over the Georgetown Tigers.
The Lady Lions (11-13, 2-5 MSC) had control of the first set when
Ana Coker's kill sparked a seven-point run. In that time,
Audrey Satterfield and
Teodora Dacic recorded blocks while
Alex Howard joined Coker and Dacic with additional kills to take a 19-15 lead. Close until the end,
Cate Schroer's kill to give FHU a 23-20 advantage was the last lead the Lady Lions had in the set, with GC scoring six of the next seven points to win the first set 27-25.
In a match with 21 ties and nine lead changes, a set win would come down to who could make lengthy runs. The Lady Lions suppressed Georgetown (17-8, 3-4 MSC) in the second set with a block from
Marija Milic and
Morgan Jackson highlighting a five-point FHU push that included an
Hanaé Bezerga ace. The Tigers would later narrow the gap to one point, but Schroer registered a kill and an ace before Dacic knotted the match with a kill to win the second set 25-21.
It was all Freed-Hardeman to start the third set. Bezerga connected on back-to-back aces before Milic slammed three consecutive kills to help give FHU an 11-3 edge. Georgetown made the set interesting by going on a 10-2 run in the middle of the set, but Schroer's kill put FHU on top two sets to one with a 25-20 set win.
Despite falling in the fourth set 25-14, FHU and Georgetown used every ounce of energy they had left in the fifth set. The Tigers appeared to have the set in had after taking a 9-5 lead, but kills from
Alex Howard and Milic helped FHU climb back to tie the finale 10-10. The Tigers would later sit on match point 14-13, but Dacic kept FHU alive with a kill. Needing two straight points to win, Jackson gave FHU the advantage before Dacic connected for the match-winner.
Teodora Dacic led all hitters with 16 kills at a .522 clip. With a team-high 26 assists,
Becca Heineman also joined the 1,000 career assist club. At the net,
Audrey Satterfield led with two solo blocks while assisting on five others.
