NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Freed-Hardeman University's Lady Lion volleyball team traveled to Music City where they faced the Bulldogs of Fisk (Tenn.) University. Despite winning the first set, the Lady Lions fell to the Bulldogs 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-23) on Thursday.
The Lady Lions (12-15) opened the set with a familiar sight: a kill from
Teodora Dacic. It was the first of 18 kills for the freshman. Neither team would stay comfortable long, Fisk would go on a run before the Lady Lions would answer. A three-point run ended with a tandem block with
Audrey Satterfield and Dacic to put FHU on top 11-8. The Bulldogs continued to fight, eventually cutting FHU's lead to 19-18.
Becca Heineman had a service ace to push FHU to score four unanswered points, helping FHU take the first set 25-20.
Fisk (25-4) went on multiple runs in the second frame to win 25-15. The Lady Lions opened the third set promisingly enough, with a kill from Dacic and a block from
Marija Milic being followed by a rare triple-block from Dacic, Satterfield, and
Ana Coker. Similarly to the first set, the teams traded runs until FHU took an 18-14 lead. When Fisk got the serve back, they never allowed the Lady Lions to serve more than once per rotation the remainder of the set to win 25-23.
The fourth set looked all Lady Lions with a kill from Milic opening a six-point swing. During that timeframe, Dacic added two more kills and Milic a service ace to give the Lady Lions an 18-11 advantage. After that, Fisk again never let FHU get comfortable with a Dacic kill being the only point scored by the Lady Lions when serving. Fisk put up five of the final six points to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
The statistics showed how close the match was, with five of the six key stats (points, kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs) being within three points of each other.Â
Teodora led all hitters with 18 kills, while
Ana Coker and
Marija Milic followed with eight each. Hanae Bezera led with 11 digs, while
Alyssa Austin and
Becca Heineman had 20 and 19 kills, respectively.
