HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions continued Mid-South Conference play against the No. 21 Cumberlands Patriots on Saturday. The Lady Lions did the best to stop the attack of the Patriots, but the guests' attack percentage of .435 was too much in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-14) final.
In the first set, the Lady Lions (9-12, 0-4 MSC) kept it close early with kills from
Teodora Dacic and
Allie Lowhorn. The Patriots managed a 100% side-out percentage - meaning that every time the Lady Lions served to UC, the Patriots won the point, keeping FHU from being able to settle in.
Marija Cabadaj's kill stopped a UC run before a kill from Dacic stopped another. Ultimately, the opening frame went to the Patriots 25-11.
Dacic was joined by
Becca Heineman to help give the Lady Lions a one-point lead over that Patriots. (19-4, 4-0 MSC) at the start of the second set. That changed when UC scored seven unanswered points to jump out to a 14-7 lead. FHU then battled back with four straight points thanks in part to a block from
Ana Coker and
Marija Milic. Dacic recorded the final kill of the set for FHU before the Pats won the set 25-15.
The third set repeated the first set, with FHU holding an early edge.
Morgan Jackson joined the attack with a kil to give the Lady Lions a 9-6 advantage. The Patriots then rattled off 10 straight points. Dacic put down the final kills for FHU in the set before falling 25-14.
Teodora Dacic led FHU with 10 kills at a .368 clip.
Becca Heineman and
Cate Schroer each led the team with four digs.
