FHU ladies bounce back with big top-5 win

HENDERSON — Before celebrating their seniors, the No. 2 Lady Lions bounced back from consecutive losses in a major way. FHU allowed just one 3-pointer to defeat the No. 5 Campbellsville Tigers, 87-51.

While Campbellsville had trouble from long range, the Lady Lions (23-3, 8-3 MSC) had no issues with the long ball with Ally Weathers bucketing the first points of the game for either team, with Jenna Satterly joining in later in the quarter. A 3-pointer from Weathers was sandwiched between baskets in the paint to help her score 12 points in the first eight minutes. With Rachel Satterly's free throws, FHU held a 21-7 lead after the first quarter.

The Tigers (21-3, 6-4 MSC) continued to suffer against FHU's potent defense, only connecting for four field goals in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Satterly sisters lit the net with both hitting 3-pointers. Back in action, Carissa Curtis celebrated her senior day with a 3-pointer. J. Satterly ended the first half with a layup to make the FHU halftime lead 42-21.

Campbellsville hit their lone 3-pointer of the afternoon to open the second half before the Lady Lions pushed out on an 11-4 run, with a majority of those coming from the charity stripe. Rachel Satterly scored on a layup to close the quarter with FHU having breathing room entering the fourth quarter holding a 59-36 lead.

Any hopes the Tigers had of a comeback were dashed when FHU scored 12 unanswered points to start the fourth. Weathers' trey pushed the Lady Lion lead to 36 points before free throws from R. Satterly and Jocy May iced the game to the 87-51 victory.

The 36-point margin of victory is the biggest any Lady Lion squad has had against the perennial top-10 program. The Lady Lions shot 53% from the floor while holding the Tigers to 32% shooting on the afternoon. While Campbellsville connected for one 3-pointer, the Lady Lions sank 11 long balls. FHU outmuscled the Tigers 40-23 at the glass.

Ally Weathers led all scorers with a season-high 22 points, including going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Jenna Satterly was right behind with 18 points while Rachel Satterly was hot on little sister's heels with 15 points. Lilly Kee went 4-for-5 from the floor to score 15 points. Four different Lady Lions led with seven rebounds with Brooklyn Crouch joining Kee, J. Satterly, and Weathers.
