HENDERSON — The No. 2 Freed-Hardeman Lions fell behind by eight before overwhelming the visiting Bethel Wildcats with a 98-72 victory.
Rico Sain opened the game with a 3-pointer for the Lions (24-1, 9-0 MSC) before Bethel battled back with a 7-0 run.
Jamarcus Powell started the comeback with a layup at 8:09 that ended with three minutes later when
Rodney Henderson's layup gave the Lions a 31-25 lead. Sain ended the half for the Lions with another 3-pointer before a jumper with six seconds left ended the half with FHU on the good end of a 40-32 score.
At the start of the second half, Bethel (16-9, 2-7 MSC) would hit a basket only for Sain to answer with a 3-pointer with another at 18:03 giving FHU a double-digit lead.
Blake Dean continued his big February with a 3-pointer sparking a 9-0 run that ended with the Lions leading 67-45. The half ended the same way it began with the Wildcats scoring only to be answered by FHU 3-pointers.
Phil Horton's trey at 1:12 ended the game on a high note in the 98-72 Lion win.
FHU shot 54% from the floor while holding the opposition to a 35% mark. FHU more than doubled Bethel in the paint by scoring 48 points to the Wildcats' 22.
Rico Sain led all scorers with 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
Phil Horton added 15 points while finishing a rebound short of a double-double, while
Rodney Henderson scoring 14.
Blake Dean had 13 points while
Caleb Thomas made it six Lions in double figures with 10 points.
