Lions cruise into MSC Championship game

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — As both the No. 1 team in the NAIA and the top seed of the Mid-South Conference tournament, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions bucketed 46 points in the first half to take care of the No. 5 seed Campbellsville Tigers, 79-49.

The Lions (28-1) stormed out of the gates with a 3-pointer from Phil Horton. Jailen Anderson followed with an old-fashioned three-point play. FHU would show off their prowess from all offensive levels with Rodney Henderson and Jamarcus Powell joining Anderson and Horton by scoring buckets in the paint. From long range, Horton was joined by Caleb Thomas and Rico Sain to push FHU's lead to 25-7 with 7:06 left in the first half. Lane Lauderbaugh's layup at 4:25 began a run where FHU would outscore Campbellsville 17-1 with three straight triples to put the Lions on top by 28. A final 3-pointer from the Tigers ended the half with the Lions leading 46-21.

The Lions kept the momentum out of the locker room with Horton scoring five points out of the break to help push the FHU lead over Campbellsville (19-11) to 30 point. Lauderbaugh's layups were followed by a 3-pointer from DJ McIntyre before Horton's triple at 6:58 gave the Lions a 38-point lead. Late baskets from Campbellsville were not enough with FHU getting the 79-49 victory.

FHU forced 16 Tigers turnovers while only surrendering the ball themselves five times. FHU made 12 3-pointers with Campbellsville making seven.

Phil Horton led all scorers with 23 points, including a career-high five 3-pointers. Jailen Anderson was just behind him with 15 points while Lane Lauderbaugh added 11 points in the win.
