Neither Lions nor Trojans break through in draw

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lion soccer team visited an old foe from FHU's days in the American Midwest Conference with a visit to Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University. Neither team could find the net in a 0-0 draw.

The Lions (1-0-1) showed early promise when Noah Setterberg rocketed a shot at the Trojan goalkeeper, but was saved at 17:51. The first half remained a battle in the midfield with the only two shots on goal coming from HLGU, but Gaspar Bourdon made saves on both to keep the scores level at intermission.

Hannibal-LaGrance (1-0-1) had an offensive flurry to open the second half, forcing Bourdon to make a save in the 51st minute before sending three more shots that did not find the mark. Setterberg had another change at 59:52, but his shot was again kept out of the net. One final attempt from Henry Appiah in the 82nd minute was the last chance for either team to break the tie.

The Lions managed four shots in the contest, with Setterberg's two being joined by shots from Appiah and David Hajduk. By the end of the match, Bourdon managed four saves to keep his sheet clean.
