HENDERSON — A late flurry was not enough to break a stalemate as the Freed-Hardeman University Lions concluded a match with a draw for the second straight match. This time, the Lions and the Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) University Toppers finished in a 1-1 draw.
The Lions (1-0-2) had the first shot on goal with
Paolo Sparks putting a shot on net at 5:33 before Sparks added another at 17:34. It was the Toppers that struck first when a great through ball from midfield put BMCU on top at 21:44.
Freed-Hardeman made BMCU (1-0-1) pay for a booking that gave the Lions a free keep deep in Topper territory. In the 79th minute, a free kick was knocked away at the net, but found the boot of
David Hajduk whose shot found the back of the net to level the scores.
The Lions out-shot the opposition 14-9, but the BMCU keeper kept out six shots.
David Hajduk had five shots including three on goal with one of those being his goal. In the net,
Gaspar Bourdon had two saves.
