The cross country teams headed back to Memphis to compete in the Rhodes Cross Country Invitational, put on by Rhodes College. The men ran their first 8k of the season, starting at 8am. Barrett Poe and Daniel Puckett once again pushed each other to the limit finishing just three seconds apart, Poe in third place in 26:24 and Puckett in fourth in 26:27. Lucas Black and Neal Rowlett both finished in the top-30, in 24th and 29th place, respectively. Brock Windham finished fifth for the guys, rounding out their scoring in 37th place. FHU placed fourth in the team race, out of 9 teams.

On the other side, the women ran their third 5k of the season, placing fifth out of 10 teams. Mary Pearce was the leading racer for the women, finishing in ninth place. Hannah Gehlert and Bella Lamb finished within three-seconds of each other to grab top-25 finishes, Gehlert in 23rd and Lamb in 25th. Zola Dorris was the next runner across the line in 34th place, and Clara Whitworth finished the team scoring with a 45th place finish, for a total of 123 team points.

The next time the Lions and Lady Lions will race will be on October 3rd at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, where the men will race an 8k and the women will race their first 6k of the season.
