CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Competing in their second Mid-South Conference match in as many days, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball team fell to the Tigers of Campbellsville 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-18).
In the opening frame, the Lady Lions (8-10, 0-2 MSC) stayed in with with a kill from
Teodora Dacic's kill helping open a three-point swing that ended with a 7-7 tie. The hosting Tigers then scored five unanswered points to jump out to a 12-7 lead. Late in the let, kills from
Marija Milic and
Marija Cabadaj narrowed the gap to a lone point, but Campbellsville hit 25 points first to win the opening set 25-22.
The second set opened with Campbellsville (17-5, 3-0 MSC) opening with a 7-1 run that was ended by a block from
Allie Lowhorn and
Ana Coker. FHU's offense battled back with kills from
Cate Schroer and
Olivia Saint to pull the score to 11-8 in favor of the hosts. Campbellsville then never allowed the Lady Lions to get comfortable before winning the second set 25-12.
Schroer's kill and a block from Milic and Saint opened the third set promisingly enough, with Dacic's service ace helping a run that ended with a 6-6 draw. After than, CU began to pull away until a 5-1 run ended the league match with a 25-18 set win and a 3-0 match win.
The Lady Lion back row stood strong, out-digging the opposition 38-29, while the setting tandem of
Alyssa Austin and
Becca Heineman recording 28 blocks, wo more than CU's total output.
Marija Cabadaj led the hitting with eight kills, while
Hanaé Bezerga led with eight blocks.
