As a Lion

In his four years at Freed-Hardeman, Payton Redden was the definition of a workhorse on the mound for the Lion baseball team.

A native of Henderson, Redden worked a variety of roles as part of the FHU pitching staff ranging from coming out of the bullpen as a freshman to being a weekend starter as a junior and senior.  By the time he graduated, he had amassed more wins (24) than any other pitcher in program history – a record that stood for 10 years.

Redden finished his career ranking in the top 10 in six categories – wins (second, 24); appearances (third, 58); saves (third, 5); strikeouts (fourth, 185); innings pitched (fourth, 272.2); and complete games (second, 19).  He also excelled in the classroom as a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

After Graduation

Payton went on to earn a degree in physical therapy in 2002 from the UT Memphis Health Science Center.  At the time of his induction, he resided in Jackson, Tenn., with his wife Shelley and their five children.  He owns two outpatient therapy clinics, Redden Total Therapy North and South.
