Box Score BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon (Ark.) College Pipers took a close match and turned it into a comfortable win thanks to four second-half goals in a 5-0 win over the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Lions stayed close with the Pipers (9-1-2) in the first half, only allowing a goal by Katy Smith on a rebound in the 20th minute, to trail 1-0 at the break.
But Lyon opened the floodgates early in the second half, getting three goals in the span of four minutes to put the match well out of reach. Anja Klotzle scored in the 57th and 60th minutes, and Jordan Kalei Aliviado finished the flurry with a goal in the 61st minute.
Heather Martinez tacked on Lyon's final goal in the 80th minute.
The Pipers outshot FHU 25-3 and 13-2 on goal.
Whitney Newby and
Julie Bracknell each had a shot on goal for Freed-Hardeman.
Tiffany Harris recorded eight saves for FHU.
The Lady Lions need a win on Thursday over Union (Tenn.) University to have a chance at qualifying for the conference tournament. They host the Lady Bulldogs at 5:00 PM at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
