Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The first fall sporting event of the 2011 season kicks off tonight as the Lady Lion soccer team hosts Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University at 7:00 PM at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
However, there have been several changes to the Lady Lions' and Lions' schedules. Saturday's match at Brescia (Ky.) University has been cancelled for both teams and the two women's matches set for next weekend in Henderson have also been cancelled. The Lions will play on Friday and Monday of next weekend, losing a Saturday game due to another cancellation.
After tonight's match, the Lady Lions will not play again until they host Delta State (Miss.) University on Sept. 12.
Last year, the Lady Lions set a program record with 10 wins and finished 10-6-3 on the season. The majority of the team's offensive production returns but some key losses on the defensive side - including goalkeeper
Tiffany Harris and defensive captain
Nikki Ceeney - leave some question marks in the back.
Junior forward
Whitney Newby enters the season already ranking fourth all-time in the program's record book in points with 40, fifth in goals with 14 and third in assists with 12. Should her production be close to that of last year, she will finish the season ranking second in points and goals and could be the career leader in assists. Leslie Tiensvold currently holds the top spot in all three categories (80 points, 33 goals, 18 assists).
The Lady Lions last played Harris-Stowe in 2008, defeating the Hornets 4-0 on Sept. 5 in Henderson.
Julie Bracknell scored her first collegiate goal in that match, opening the scoring in the 12th minute.
