Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - Julie Bracknell and
Whitney Newby each recorded hat tricks as the Freed-Hardeman University women's soccer team defeated Midway (Ky.) College, 8-2, on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Lions wasted no time, scoring in the second minute when Newby converted a breakaway after a through ball from Bracknell.
Briley Collins gave FHU a 2-0 lead with a well-placed shot off a feed from
Melissa Johnson. Newby scored her second goal in the 18th minute off a pass from
Elizabeth Blanton then finished her hat trick off before halftime as FHU took a 4-0 lead into the break.
The second half began in the same way with as Bracknell made the score 5-0 off a pass from Newby. Blanton then scored off another
Melissa Johnson assist. Bracknell scored her second and third goals later in the half, both from
Shelby Murray passes. Midway got on the board with two counter attack goals in the second period.
FHU had 24 shots for the match with 18 coming on frame. Midway took five shots and had three on frame.
Abbey Adkins made one save for the match while the Midway keeper made 10 saves.
Freed-Hardeman now looks to carry the momentum into Tuesday's match when the Lady Lions host Bethel (Tenn.) University at 5:00 PM.
