CLEVELAND, Ga. - Truett-McConnell (Ga.) College scored both its goals in the second half in handing the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions a 2-0 loss in the season opener.
Neither team found the net in the first half, with FHU keeper Abbey Adkins making several saves to keep the match scoreless.
The scoreless tie was broken in the 58th minute when Mallory Reynolds tipped off a cross and sent the ball just past Adkins. TMC added to its lead in the 70th minute on a goal by Shelby Stanfield from 35 yards out.
TMC outshot FHU, 19-8, and held an 8-5 edge on shots on goal. Adkins finished the match with six saves, including a diving save late in the match to deflect a ball sent to the lower corner on a cross header.
"We played hard today and for the first match we saw some good things that we can build on," said head coach Jason Elliott. "They capitalized on their chances. We have to move the ball and play to feet in our next match."
The Lady Lions return to action tomorrow with a visit to Point (Ga.) University.
