Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team opened a three-game series with Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 win.
Chris Hatfield (3-0) went the distance, scattering eight hits over nine innings while striking out five.
The Lions got on the board in the second inning after Lincoln Lakoff's sacrifice fly brought in Bob Seda, who led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Blake Botti's single moved him to third and into scoring position for Lakoff to bring him in.
FHU (14-2-1) added two more in the fifth on an RBI single by Connor Kohlscheen and a run-scoring error committed by the Lynx right fielder.
Lindenwood-Belleville broke Hatfield's shutout bid in the top of the sixth after a lead-off double followed by a one-out single. Another double put runners on second and third but Hatfield escaped by retiring the next two batters.
From that point forward, no runner advanced past first base against Hatfield while the Lions added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Justin Mackey.
Kohlscheen and Mackey each had three hits as FHU outhit the Lynx, 13-8. Ryan Huber and Joe Mike both had a pair of singles.
The series finished with a double-header on Monday beginning at 2:00 PM.
